Science, Technology, & Clocks

At the next Science, Technology & Clocks Sale, featuring Militaria, Skinner will auction William Bond’s Astronomical Regulator No. 396. It is one of only three known in the world and was used as the source of Standard Time in New England in about 1868. Other timekeepers include a walnut tall clock by William Claggett of Newport, Rhode Island c. 1725, clocks by Simon and Aaron Willard, a mirror clock by Joshua Wilder, rare Connecticut manufactured clocks and pocket watches. Militaria will feature the Revolutionary War collection of C. Keith Wilbur and will include early muskets, pistols, swords, cannons, accoutrements and rare documents, including several signers of the Declaration of Independence and a discharge document signed by George Washington. Science offerings include early sundials, survey equipment, navigational devices, mechanical music and an imposing pair of 20-inch library globes by Cary of London about 1815.
