320 lots including photobooks and original photographs from two diverse but complementary collections. Leon Litwack (1929?2021) was an American historian, author and professor at UC Berkeley who collected books on documentary photography and portraiture with a keen eye for social representation. John Peter Grossmann (1947?2018) was the owner and principal of Grossmann Design Group (GDG), an architecture firm operating in the Bay Area since the 1980s that specialized in developing solutions to design and construction problems. Grossmann?s collection of photographs and photobooks mirrored his professional interests focusing on the New Topographics movement and representations of the man-altered landscape. Sale highlights include a portrait of Robinson Jeffers and other signed photographs by Ansel Adams, original photographs from Joe Deal, David Maisel, Anne Brigman, Andreas Feininger, and many others. Photobook classics include works by Ed Ruscha, Robert Adams, Lewis Baltz, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Masahisa Fukase, and many others.
