Each "Shona Stone" Sculpture From the Shona Villages of Zimbabwe is hand carved and therefore unique. Natural Edges and naturally occuring grain patterns and formations in the stone may even be incorporated in creation of the piece. Different colors and grain patterns show throughout. Some themes are repeated, but no two are identical
Shona Stone is a blanket term used to describe a variety of stones, dug and sculpted, mostly by hand in Zimbabwe. The majority of the stone used is from the family known as Serpentine. Varieties include Springstone, Opal Stone, Cobalt Stone, Leopard Rock, and Fruit Serpentine. Less common, harder varieties native to Zimbabwe include Verdite, Lepidolite, and White Marble. We are still learning and did not attempt to attribute the type of stones to individual sculptures. If the exact variety is important, you must verify it for yourself.
As we unpacked these treasures, many were wrapped in African newspapers dated back to 2005. Any price stickers in photos were on them prior to acquisition and represent wholesale pricing from 2005 on up. Sculptures were in storage for a couple of years before the current owner acquired them in 2016 and then, it was stored again until now.
Minor surface scuffs or scratches, if present, may be observed in the photos, and generally do not detract from the piece. You must decide for yourself whether you accept the condition of each item, as shown, prior to placing bids.
PLEASE ZOOM IN AND INSPECT MULTIPLE PHOTOS in each lot as they are a critical part of the description.
