Fine Japanese Art
Galerie Zacke is delighted to present Fine Japanese Art - a landmark auction featuring 317 carefully curated lots representing exceptional works of Japanese art at the very highest level. The sale spans Imperial Japanese Metalwork, Arts of the Samurai, Buddhist Art, Cloisonne, Ceramics, Okimono, and Lacquerware, concluding with a remarkable selection of Byobu Screens and Shin-hanga Woodblock Prints.
Highlights include two monumental presentation incense burners by Hayashi Harusada (lots 3 & 4), a massive silver dragon vase by Watanabe (lot 22), and several important samurai armors, including a Daimyo yoroi (lot 83) and a superb armor with a kabuto by Saotome Ietada, the do finely decorated with silver dragons (lot 91). Lots 100 and 101 are among the most exciting Buddhist paintings ever offered at Galerie Zacke - exceptionally rare imperial commissions connected to the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, remarkably preserved and very reasonably estimated. Further highlights of the Buddhist section include lot 107, the highly important bronze figure of Senju Kannon featured on the cover, dating from the late Kamakura to early Muromachi period; a monumental figure of Dainichi Nyorai (lot 121); and a complete set of 33 shrines for the Saigoku pilgrimage (lot 135). This section represents some of the finest Japanese Buddhist works we have offered to date.
