88 Snuff Bottles from Private Collections
This auction presents a selection of 88 fine and antique snuff bottles from the collections of Reginald and Lena Palmer, Jules Speelman, Gerry Mack, Thomas Klein, Bernie Wald, Anne Wrangham, John Gilmore Ford, Margaret Polak, the Kaynes-Klitz family, and an important private collection formed over several decades in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Among the noted dealer provenances are Bob Hall, Robert Kleiner, and Bertrand de Lavergne.
The snuff bottles are predominantly in excellent condition and cover a wide range of materials and techniques. The selection includes jade, agate, and chalcedony, with notable examples of cameo and shadow agate. There is also a broad group of multicolored overlay glass bottles, some combining up to five different colors, as well as double- and triple-overlay examples.
The auction further includes selected porcelain bottles from the Imperial workshops and examples in rarer materials, including cinnabar lacquer and amber. A fine group of inside-painted bottles completes the selection, including works by Ye Zhongsan and other notable masters.
