Vintage Bakelite Jewelry

For the vintage costume jewelry enthusiast, this auction will feature Bakelite from the Rodrigo J. Mouré Estate, of Bowling Green, VA. Mr. Mouré, a pioneer in the plastic jewelry industry in the 1930s, opened the Manhattan Bakelite company, Alta Novelty, with his brother Robert, in 1936. Alta Novelty supplied jewelry to numerous exclusive department stores on Fifth Avenue, as well as stores in Boston, Los Angeles, and Neiman Marcus in Texas. One rare piece to be offered is a Union Jack pin that was commissioned by Lord & Taylor in 1936. Also to be sold is the only remaining Mouré necklace from the Tibetan Exhibit for the New York 1939 World's Fair
