August Estates

Material Culture presents its eclectic and wide-ranging August Estates Auction, featuring 540+ lots of Antiques, Americana, and Decorative Arts on Saturday, August 23, 2014, 10AM EST. The range of categories runs the gamut and includes an historically important 19th Century Lenni Lenape Wedding coat consigned from a private Philadelphia estate, as well as a culturally important pop culture artifact: a 1930’s Art Deco Logines pocket watch inscribed to Cab Calloway on the occasion of his 30th birthday by The Cotton Club on Christmas, 1937. Highlights include a set of 4 L. J&G Stickley side chairs, an austere hammered copper Russian Samovar, a fine pair of Fer Forge Torchieres and exquisite French perfume bottles. The natural history buff will find great pleasure in the Palm-sized Iron Meteorite while the anthropology and ethnographic collector will recognize the elegance of the Karamojong Headrest that leads the African Art category. Other categories offered include: Toys, Navajo Rugs, Advertising, Fine Art, Couture, Silver, and much more. Exhibition: August 21-22, 11AM-5PM
