In 1943, Hofmann discovered the psychedelic effects of LSD and conducted a self-experiment that included his famous bicycle ride home on April 19, now commemorated as “Bicycle Day.” Hofmann became an important figure in the history of psychedelic research and authored *LSD: My Problem Child*.
