19th century, a group of three carved ivory implements from the Bering Sea Eskimo (Yupik) culture, likely St. Lawrence Island or the surrounding Bering Strait region, Seal Effigy Toothpick/Scratcher – A small, naturalistically carved figure in the form of a seal, curved body tapering to a point, with incised dot detailing suggesting eyes/nostrils. Length approximately 1 1/8 in. Aged patina with expected ethnographic wear and handling smoothness, worn lose at the tip. (2) Bag Fastener Toggle, Fish Form – Elongated curved toggle carved from ivory, gently tapering at both ends with a pierced/drilled attachment point. Banded incised rings at the terminal with a row of drilled dot decoration running the length of the body, in keeping with traditional fish-form toggles used as cordage or bag fasteners. Warm honey-toned patina throughout, consistent with age and use. (3) Bag Fastener Toggle, Line and Dot Decoration – Gently curved ivory toggle tapering to points at both ends, the surface divided into decorative bands of incised ring-and-dot and concentric circle motifs alternating with plain sectioning bands. Rich aged patina with fine surface crazing consistent with ethnographic use. Dimensions: Ranging from 1 1/8 in. (smallest) to 6 3/8 in. (largest).
