Offered for you consideration is this well preserved tanto mounted with a hirazukuri blade most likely made in the very early 19th century known as the Shin Shinto period. Contained in a black lacquered scabbard and hilt with very attractive aikuchi mounts this tanto is heavily adorned in silver family crests. Given what this tanto would have cost at the time it probably belonged to either a wealthy samurai or merchant.
