This Scale of Justice is a powerful symbolic component brought together in a historic decorative form. The scale of justice represents fairness and weighing evidence dating back to ancient times. The bald eagle became the national emblem of the U.S. in 1782, chosen for the great seal to symbolize freedom, authority, and power. The eagle perched atop a set of legal scales is not a single, ancient historical artifact, but rather a popular decorative and symbolic piece. The scale of justice is generally produced as decorative art for law offices, studies, or homes serving as a visual reinforcement of the ideals of the legal system; the strength and authority of law (Eagle) ensures fairness and impartiality (scales). This vintage item from the mid 20th century is made of brass, chrome plate, wood and Italian marble for its base. The interplay of metallic, organic, and stone elements make this piece visually dynamic and appealing from various angles, highlighting craftsmanship and material quality. This scale is a dignified aesthetic, making it an ideal sophisticated accent for an office, mantel, library or traditional living space. This scale measures 16 3/4" tall by 17" wide and is in good condition.
