Description
This striking vintage sugar bowl and creamer set features classic hand-painted Japanese dragonware, rendered in rich cobalt blue with raised dragon detailing, soft ombre glazing, and fine painted accents throughout. The dimensional dragons, dotted borders, and cloud motifs are all done by hand, giving each piece subtle variations that add to the charm and authenticity of the set.
The sugar bowl has a gently domed lid with a sculptural knob and wide handles, while the creamer features a graceful spout and comfortable handle. Together they make a beautiful display set or functional addition to a tea or coffee service.
Based on the green Hand Painted Japan mark and decorative style, this set dates to the mid-20th century, circa 1940s-1950s, produced for export during the post-war era when Japanese hand-decorated ceramics were highly popular in the U.S. market.
