A handsome pair of Louis XV style walnut fauteuils with pressed-cane backs, scrolling arms, and carved cabriole legs joined by a shaped stretcher. Well proportioned and substantial, they have an easy elegance that works just as well in a formal room as it does in a more relaxed, collected interior.

The walnut frames have a warm, aged tone and attractive depth, with carved detail at the knees, feet, and arm supports that gives the chairs character without making them feel overly ornate. The caned backs are tall and graceful, and the scrolling arms give the pair the right amount of presence. They are comfortable, decorative, and highly versatile.

Both chairs retain their original antique walnut frames and have been later recaned and reupholstered, making them ready for everyday use. The caning is clean and tight, and the seats have been tastefully redone in a light patterned upholstery that complements the warmth of the walnut beautifully. Those later updates are a real plus, since both caning and upholstery can be costly to redo.

These work beautifully as fireside chairs, accent chairs, occasional chairs, or library seating, and would be equally at home in a living room, bedroom, study, or entry.
