Description
Heywood Hardy was a painter and etcher of animals, portraits, genre and sporting subjects. He was elected a member of a number of societies including The Royal Society of Painters and Etchers, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters. His hunting scenes are in great demand.
A photogravure is a highly detailed, labor-intensive printmaking technique that combines photography with traditional etching. Invented in 1879, it involves transferring a photographic image onto a metal plate (usually copper), using light and acid to etch varying depths into the metal, and then pressing it with ink onto paper.
The result is a hybrid piece of art that bridges the gap between mechanical reproduction and fine-art printmaking. Photogravures are highly prized by collectors for their luminous tonal range, rich colors (often warm blacks), and velvety texture.
