This 1987 photogravure by Bruce Weber is a portrait of a golden retriever in profile-mouth open, tongue loose, gaze lifted with unwavering devotion toward someone just outside the frame. The light catches the dog's fur and softens the scene, rendering it both noble and impossibly tender. In Weber's hands, even a dog becomes an icon of American character: loyal, optimistic, effortlessly handsome.

Best known for his portraits of American masculinity and the rituals of summer, Weber has spent his career documenting life at the edges of lakes, beaches, and back porches-those liminal spaces where strength and vulnerability often meet. His photographs evoke memory more than spectacle, and style more than fashion-never posed, always felt. There is elegance in his ease, and a deeply American sense of longing and freedom in the way he frames the world. This image is no exception: timeless, affectionate, and quietly heroic.

Custom framed with a deep chip-carved profile and a thin gold filet-refined, but with soul.
