According to the Christie's sale catalogue, the authenticity of this work was confirmed by Dr. Marian Bisanz-Prakken in a letter dated 30.04.01, stating that it will be included in the forthcoming supplement to the catalogue raisonne of Klimt drawings.

This work belongs to a series of drawings relating to the painting Jurisprudenz (1903-1907), which was one of the three works commissioned for the University of Vienna's Great Hall in 1896. After much controversy surrounding the paintings and what they represented, they were never displayed.

Toned; laid down to rice paper which has been adhered to board along its edges on the verso; few old repaired small tears along the bottom edge; some old handling creases; few scattered smudges/ surface dirt; scattered foxing; there appears to be a seven inch faint hairline scratch at the upper left corner.
