Description
Circa 1850. Early thermoplastic box with a hinged rear compartment for key storage. The top is fitted with an oval giltcast bronze lid depicting two cherubim releasing a caged bird. The front features a sliding on/off button and retains the original brass key formed as a bird. When activated, the lid flips open and a feathered bird emerges through an engraved, pierced brass cover, rotating, flapping its wings, opening its beak, and singing. Winds and runs but needs servicing. Measures 2 3/4" x 4" x 1 1/2" high closed and 3" high open.
