Description
This authentic German WWII Gold Wound Badge is a solid, die-struck example displaying correct form, weight, and construction. The obverse retains strong detail to the helmet, crossed swords, and laurel wreath, while the reverse shows correct hardware. The lower tip of the clasp catch is broken off, a condition issue noted for accuracy and transparency.
The Gold Wound Badge was awarded to those wounded five or more times, or to recipients who suffered severe or debilitating injuries in combat. It represents one of the more prestigious wound awards of the Third Reich and carries significant emotional and historical weight. Solid-back examples are particularly sought after, as they reflect early or higher-quality production.
Despite the minor hardware flaw, this badge remains a powerful and collectible combat award with strong presence and historical significance. It offers collectors an opportunity to acquire an authentic Gold Wound Badge at a more accessible level while still retaining the core attributes valued by advanced collectors.
Provenance: Acquired from a 30-year Collector o
Provenance:We were privileged to receive first right of refusal on an expansive and long-held Texas WWII veteran collection, assembled over a lifetime by a gentleman in his 80s who recently chose to part with his holdings in full. Opportunities to acquire intact collections of this depth and integrity are exceedingly rare, and we secured the collection in its entirety. Within it were exceptionally scarce and highly unusual pieces of German wartime memorabilia seldom encountered on the open market. It is our honor to present select offerings from this remarkable assemblage in this auction and the next. The provenance is outstanding, and the material speaks for itself.
