Attributed to the Parisian optician Noël François Joseph Buron, signature on tube "Made for McAllister Co. Philadelphia", original lacquered brass, height when mounted on the box 14 in., box dimensions 10 ½ x 6 x 3 ½ in., 1 lens, 1 eyepiece, substage pinhole aperture disc, mirror added, coarse and fine adjustment via a rack and pinion drive, mahogany box with a plaque reading "Presented to James Rodgers DD by the youth of his Congregation March 1856", drawer with removable tray.
