Leopold Strobl (b.?1960, Mistelbach, Austria) is a self?taught artist associated with the Art Brut tradition, best known for his intimate, meditative drawings in colored pencil on newspaper imagery. After spending many years at the Gugging House of Artists near Vienna—a creative center for psychiatric and visionary artists—Strobl developed a distinctive visual language: he begins with printed photographs or clippings and overlays them with layered black, green, and yellow pencil, transforming them into evocative landscapes and mysterious forms that suggest both memory and abstraction. His meticulous, small?format works exude a quiet intensity and spiritual resonance that have attracted international attention. He lives and works in Lower Austria.

Strobl’s work is held in several prominent public collections, including: The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, Treger/Saint Silvestre Art Brut Collection, Portugal, and abcd ART BRUT Collection, France.  His work was also exhibited  at the Venice Biennale in 2024.
