World War Two U.S. Navy VC-79 squadron patch. The patch is schiffli embroidery on wool. Measures 5.25" x 4". Established as Composite Squadron seventy Nine (VC-79) on December 6, 1943. The insignia was approved by the Office of Chief of Naval Operations - CNO on May 16, 1944. VC-79 flew Grumman FM-2 Wildcats and TBM Avengers from the Escort Carrier USS Sargent Bay.The squadron provided air support for the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, performing close air support, anti-submarine patrols, and combat air patrols. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
