Description
(1812-1872) Confederate brigadier general who served in western Virginia and in Kentucky under Bragg, later Confederate congressman for Kentucky. Good military content, war-date A.L.S., 1p. 4to., [place uncl.], Feb. 2, 1862, to a Col. Moore, in full: ‘On receipt of this communication put your regiment in motion as soon as you can conveniently, and march via Pound Gap [on the Virginia-Kentucky border] for Gladesville [West Virginia] at which place you will receive further orders as to your destination. Provide for the transportation of your sick and do not leave behind any whom it will be in the opinion of the physician’s purview to travel.’ He signs ‘H Marshall’ at the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank ‘Brig. Genl Comg.’ Shows soiling and some paper loss to the bottom left corner, with mild foxing and toning, and with original mailing folds, otherwise in very good condition overall.
