
Description
(1798 - 1877) Union brigadier general, commander of the IV Corps' 2nd Brigade, attached to the Army of the Potomac. He led the brigade throughout the Peninsula Campaign in 1862, wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines. During the Battle of Malvern Hill, his command assisted in repulsing the Confederate attack against Union forces. Autograph D.S. ‘J. J. Abercrombie’, 1p. 4to., Philadelphia, March 10, 1836, a receipt for clothing, uniform pieces and other items delivered by an assistant quartermaster. Abercrombie signs at the conclusion in black ink, adding his contemporary rank. Shows original mailing folds, with slight toning and a small chip at top right, otherwise in very good to fine condition overall.
