
Description
(1823 - 1914) Confederate lieutenant general who led his division at Perryville, and Knoxville. Accepted Ulysses S. Grant's demand for 'unconditional surrender' after the Battle of Fort Donelson making him the first Confederate general of the war to surrender an army. Buckner also later served as Governor of Kentucky. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., (Kentucky), Dec. 9, 1896. Nice content re: CSA Gen. Albert Pike, in part: '...There are doubtless many of Gen. Pike's friends who would be glad to have his portrait but I cannot now locate one. His early life weas passed in Little Rock, Ark. where he doubtless has many friends. After the war he [?] Washington City and was there [?] interred...' Fine condition, matted with a copy of a photo portrait of Buckner and set into a gilt wood frame.
