Description
Mid 20th Century, Masks crafted from turtle shell are most famously associated with the Torres Strait Islands (located between Australia and New Guinea). These unique, highly complex ceremonial objects, often referred to as le op (human face), buk, or krar, hold significant cultural and historical importance. This is a simple example, that was possibly made for sale, but still displays nicely. There has been some shell loss on the face from age. Previous provenance of a private dealer in San Francisco. We guarantee every item as described, and have 2-3 experts look at each item to come to a consensus. Please feel free to reach out at anytime with any questions, comments, concerns or issues. We ship in house and do what we can to ensure the shipping costs are as reasonable as possible.
