Description
Brewer/Business Name: Lexington Brewing Co., Lexington, Kentucky
Manufacturer/Plant: American Art Works
Date of manufacture: Prohibition
Contents/Type: N/A
Dimensions: 13-1/2 w x 13-1/2 h.
Comments/description: While there is no manufacturers mark, this is a stock image known to come from American Art Works. Trayman.net pegs this as a post-Prohibition issue although ice cream makers are known to have used it in the 1920s and the artwork no doubt reflects styles of that era. We believe it is highly possible this tray was issued by the brewer during Prohibition as well, citing a lack of label on the bottle (thereby not revealing a specific brew or alcohol level), no brewery name (brewers who remained in business often changed their names during Prohibition), the use of gold script on the rims (a treatment that was very rarely used after Repeal), and the overall lack of stock trays used by brewers post-Repeal. Whatever the period, this is a wonderful image in excellent condition. All items are original unless otherwise noted. For questions, feedback, or to sell a similar item contact Dan via email.
