Eagle-Shaped Pottery, Height 17cm, Length 21cm, Width 12.5cm. Neolithic Yangshao Culture (unearthed 1957 from Taipingzhuang tomb, Hua County, Shaanxi, now at National Museum of China, iconic type). Black pottery (sand-tempered), fine clay, smoothly polished dark brown surface. Crafted via coiling, sectional shaping and appliqué, hand-moulded eagle form, assembled head, body and three legs, polished and reduction-fired, realistic shape, prehistoric sculpture pinnacle. Yangshao Culture (c. 7000–5000 BP). Value: China’s only complete raptor-shaped prehistoric pottery, origin of realistic sculpture, precursor to Shang-Zhou bronze bird vessels, embodying raptor worship and theocracy, a National Museum treasure and milestone in ancient art with irreplaceable archaeological value.
