Matted & framed under glass: 49" x 40".Constancia Calderón de Augrain, known as Coqui Calderón, was born in the city of Panama in 1937. She is the daughter of a Panamanian father and American mother. She completed her secondary studies at the Colegio Las Esclavas at the age of sixteen. Coqui obtained a Bachelor of Arts with a specialization in art history at Rosemont College in Pennsylvania in 1959. She later took free art courses for three years in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Académie Julian, and the Sorbonne. After her art training, Calderone lived in New York from 1961 to 1967, where she deepened her understanding of contemporary painting practices. During the 1980s, she resided in Miami, producing pastels and acrylics focused on landscapes and still lifes accompanied by sketches that reveal her creative process. From 1990 onwards, she returned to Panama and renewed her exploration of the relationship between nature and humanity.This is a large, colorful landscape work that the artist translated to a color silkscreen edition.
