Description
first half 19th century, 296 x 116 cm, Central Anatolia, Kayseri
BRÜGGEMANN, WERNER & BÖHMER, HARALD, Teppiche der Bauern und Nomaden in Anatolien. Hanover 1980, no. 15
Four massive box shapes in blue and green fill the field of this Incesu long rug to such an extent that almost nothing of the red ground is visible. Each box contains an octagon with a wide hooked outline and a Talish rosette at its centre. Right-angled triangles are placed in the corners, their hypotenuses diagonally opposed to the centres. Since the pile of loosely twisted, long-fibre yarn survives at its original height, the fur-like design appears somewhat blurred, as in some yataks. An almost identical Incesu was published by Bruggemann / Bohmer as early as 1980 and exhibited at the Carmelite Monastery in Frankfurt at the time.

Condition
The pile is preserved in its original height and in good condition except for a worn area in the second medallion from the top.
