Description

late 19th century, 265 x 165 cm, North East Caucasus, Daghestan

The red field contains three large Chelaberd sunburst medallions and many small designs distributed around them. The white main border shows stars within octagonal surrounds. The style of drawing, palette and comparatively low density of the weave suggest an origin in Derbent.

Condition

Signs of age and wear in places. Both ends slightly reduced.
