Description
A carved wood and brass tobacco pipe featuring the effigy of a chief like male playing a kalimba or thumb piano. The carving is classic in form and style and was embellished with metal tacks. The Pipe has a brass stem. The Pipe has a deep well handled surface suggesting field use and wear. The Pipe measures 15.25 inches tall, 17.25 inches tall on professional custom display stand. Chokwe peoples, Angola, West Africa. Provenance: A Private New Jersey collection. See the Saint Louis Art Museum for a Pipe carved in a similar fashion.
