The Body draws inspiration from Katsushika Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa, combining the symbolic imagery of "salmon sushi" and the female body into a conceptual image suspended between body, food, and cultural metaphor. The curled human form resembles a rice ball, sushi, or a clenched fist, suggesting the strength and resilience of life. The work also responds to the long-standing objectification of women in Asian culture. Using the body of an Asian woman as a canvas, the artist presents an effort to break away from and rewrite such labels.
Exhibitions & Public Presentation:
The work was exhibited in Reflections of Multi-selves at the CMCI Winter Festival, Somerset House, London, in 2023. In 2024, it received the Global SinoPhoto Awards in the category of Constructed Photography Single, and was included in Life Framer's The Human Body winning selection.
