Description
Location: People's Park, Chengdu
Medium: Archival digital giclee print
Edition: 11/20
Heming Teahouse was photographed in People's Park, Chengdu, using an overlooking perspective to present the everyday landscape of Chengdu's teahouse culture. Tree shade, tiled eaves, bamboo chairs, and tea tables unfold layer by layer across the image, while people sit among them reading, talking, drinking tea, and resting, together forming a slow yet full picture of urban life. The work continues Chen Jin's sustained attention to everyday spaces and vernacular culture in Chengdu, presenting, within an apparently ordinary scene, the order, rhythm, and human warmth of the teahouse as a public social space.
Chen Jin, born in Chengdu in 1955, is a member of the China Photographers Association, an advisor to the Sichuan Photographers Association, and former senior editor at Sichuan Fine Arts Publishing House. He has published photo books including Marketplace, Marketplace China, Reflections on Chengdu, Sichuan Teahouses, Tea Affairs of Sichuan People, and Teahouses. He received the 9th China Photography Golden Image Award, the International Folklore Photography Human Contribution Award, the Bashu Literature and Art Award, and the Bashu Literature and Art Special Award.
