This work was photographed at Yaqing Monastery in Baiyu, Sichuan. Yaqing is a Buddhist academy-type monastery, and the river-encircled area is where the nuns reside. From an elevated viewpoint, the artist captures this distinctive spatial structure: the densely clustered dwellings and surrounding waterways together form a visual field marked by strong order and symbolic resonance. Bringing into a single frame the living environment, spiritual framework, and lived reality of Tibetan Buddhist nuns, the work conveys a quiet yet deeply suggestive position of looking.
Zhou Wei, born in 1969, is a freelance photographer based in Changzhou, Jiangsu.
