Description
Probably Italian, late 16th century. Interior rough from the hammer, with red paint "448:19" control number. With rolled edge at the gorget with an embosssed geometric design, with seven etched straps of scrollwork and florals, with strapwork at edges, becoming more elaborate towards the top of the armor. Well executed period repair on left shoulder strap. With a later fauld. CONDITION: Cleaned in the European fashion, softening the etching throughout, with some scattered delamination and darkness. One crack at the base of the armor, hidden by fauld.
