American sculptor and installation artist Jonathan Borofsky's works, often large-scale public artworks, combine creativity, movement, and social themes while encouraging dialog about society, individuality and the human experience.
Borofsky grew up in Boston and studied art at the Carnegie Mellon University and Yale University, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. During the 1970s, he became associated with conceptual art and gained attention for projects based on counting numbers and repetitive imagery. Borofsky later became famous for monumental sculptures such as "Hammering Man" and "Walking to the Sky," which symbolize human ambition, labor, and imagination.
Borofsky has explored the egg form in several installations, including the present work. Using the egg as a symbol of birth, creativity and transformation, this work considers ideas about the origins of life, personal growth and a connection between humans and the natural world. These smooth, oversized objects inspire curiosity and play while also allowing for deeper philosophical meaning and emotional reflection.
