Description
This three piece children's dinnerware set is an official licensed product for the Games of the XXIIIrd Olympiad, held in Los Angeles in 1984. Manufactured by Papel, the set is made of white ceramic and features the official mascot, Sam the Olympic Eagle. The set consists of a plate, a bowl, and a mug, all housed in their original illustrated retail packaging. The plate and bowl feature a central graphic of Sam the Olympic Eagle wearing a patriotic hat and holding the Olympic torch. The design is framed by red and blue concentric bands and the Stars in Motion logo. Printed text on the plate reads Sam the Olympic Eagle and Games of the XXIIIrd Olympiad Los Angeles 1984. The mug depicts Sam the Eagle participating in various sporting events, including baseball and basketball. The underside of the plate includes a blue and red backstamp that reads: Manufactured under license from the LAOOC by PAPEL Official licensee, Stars In Motion copyright 1980 LAOOC, and Sam the Olympic Eagle copyright 1982 LAOOC. A blue and white oval sticker is present, reading MADE IN JAPAN. The original cardboard box identifies Papel as the Official Ceramicware Licensee and lists copyright dates for the Star and Sam logos from 1980, 1981, and 1982.
