Description
George Howell Gay (1858 - 1931) Woodlands + Stream Watercolor on paper, signed lower left, piece measures 24 x 35 and 41 x 30 inches with gilded wood frame and original antique glass. Artist was an American painter known for his delicate watercolor seascapes and coastal landscapes. Born in Wisconsin and active primarily in New York and Connecticut, he studied with marine painter Paul Brown. Gay specialized in tranquil, light-filled views of shorelines, harbors, and atmospheric skies, often rendered in soft tones with fine detail. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the American Watercolor Society.
