Description
This monumental European refectory table dates to the late 17th or early 18th century and is crafted from solid hand-hewn oak, featuring a thick multi-plank top over a richly carved drawer frieze with bold foliate motifs, supported by turned legs and a full stretcher base, a form traditionally used in monasteries, farmhouses, and great halls in France and Spain. The table measures 34" tall, 72" wide, and 32" deep, and remains structurally solid while retaining extensive authentic surface wear including heavy patina, old splits, softened edges, prior woodworm damage, surface erosion, and darkened oxidation across the top, legs, and base, all of which reflect centuries of real use and contribute to its extraordinary character and historical presence rather than detracting from it, making this a rare survivor of early European furniture craftsmanship rather than a later reproduction or restored decorative piece.
