An exceptional Korean lacquered banchan box in a deep oxblood finish, richly inlaid with mother-of-pearl cranes beneath stylized pines.

This octagonal form is striking from every angle. The lid features two cranes "” symbols of longevity and harmony "” rendered in luminous shell with remarkable detail. Unlike flat inlay, the cranes sit slightly proud of the surface, creating subtle shadow play and dimensional contrast against the high-gloss lacquer. The effect is refined and quietly dramatic.

The ground reads as a deep oxblood or dark chestnut "” warmer and more nuanced than black "” allowing the iridescent shell work to shift and glow as light moves across it. Pine boughs arc overhead in prismatic abalone tones, framing a red sun disk in the distance.
