This substantial bench is modeled after a traditional elephant howdah, the ceremonial seat carried atop an elephant's back. Made in Thailand from solid teak, it combines a spindle-gallery back with a scalloped upper rail, turned finials, and deeply carved side panels with bird and foliate motifs. The base is the real showstopper, with dramatically swept and stacked bentwood legs in an X-frame configuration that give the piece an unmistakable sculptural presence. It is marked "Made in Thailand" on the underside.

The piece measures 60 inches wide by 26.5 inches deep by 31.75 inches tall, with a seat height of 16.75 inches and arm height of 27.25 inches.
