Description
This four-panel Japanese room divider combines two distinct decorative elements to strong effect. The upper portion of each panel is fitted with a painted silk panel depicting a continuous landscape with cranes in flight, pine trees, mountains, and water, rendered in the traditional nihonga manner across all four panels. The lower half of each panel features open asanoha lattice fretwork, the classic Japanese hemp leaf geometric pattern, executed in teak with considerable precision. The reverse side shows the plain fabric backing of the painted panels. Brass hinges connect all four panels.
The screen measures 71.25 inches tall by 90 inches wide when opened as shown, with each panel measuring 26.5 inches wide by 1 inch thick. The fretwork is intact with no missing elements. There is some staining to the painted silk panels as shown in the photographs, consistent with age. Please see all available photographs and consider them as part of the item description.
