Mid 19th century pair of English Staffordshire "Jackfield" dogs, finished in a deep, lustrous black glaze with gilt collar and chain decoration. "Jackfield" refers to the distinctive rich black surface, a hallmark of this type of pottery. Each figure is modeled in a classic seated pose with expressive features, capturing the charm and character typical of early Staffordshire work. The glossy finish and refined detailing make these a striking decorative accent, equally at home on a mantel or shelf. As is common with early Staffordshire pieces, the pair is unmarked.
