Description
A richly decorated early 19th-century English ironstone covered tureen with matching undertray in the highly desirable Imari palette. This dramatic serving piece features deep cobalt blue reserves, rust-orange floral decoration, scrolling gilt highlights, and stylized botanical motifs on a creamy white ground. The sculptural handles and elegant finial give the form wonderful presence.
The underside bears the printed "Stone Ware J.R. Valentia" mark beneath a crown, indicating an early Staffordshire ironstone production in the Mason's taste, circa 1820–1840. The form and decoration strongly reflect the influence of Mason's patent ironstone wares of the Regency period.
The tureen displays beautiful age-related crazing throughout platter, consistent with authentic early ironstone. An impressive decorative object for an English country house, chinoiserie dining room, or blue-and-white collection.
