A striking vintage Korean black lacquer presentation or scholar's box featuring exceptionally detailed hand-cut mother-of-pearl inlay throughout, including not only the figural crane and pine motifs, but also the intricate geometric key-pattern borders and woven corner panels.

The lid displays a graceful landscape scene with cranes in flight among stylized clouds and blossoming branches, executed in luminous abalone shell with remarkable precision and iridescence. The tiny tessellated shell inlay work is especially impressive in person and reflects beautifully under changing light.

Opening to a rich warm brown lacquered interior, the box reveals a fitted compartmentalized tray with removable covered compartment and accompanying brass dish insert featuring seasonal and symbolic motifs in relief.
