Description
This is an antique, 19th century, hoop back windsor chair. It came out of Lancaster county Pa and probably spent most of its life on an Amish farm. It has a nice patina and the alligatoring in the finish shows its advanced age. The legs are attached to a one piece seat going completely through and being affixed in place with wedges. This method was used up until around the 1840's when chair makers started using blind pockets to attach legs. One of the spindles attached to the hoop back show signs of an old repair as shown in the photos. The seat has also been split at sometime in the past and has been repaired with glue and a brass plate as shown in the photos. The chair is still very stable. This chair is a beautiful piece of antique Americana. Please look carefully at the pictures as they make up an important part of the description. Questions are always welcome.
