Description
Vintage Swedish Orange Footed Art Glass Vase by Erik Hoglund for Boda circa 1960s.  Original foil label: "BODA, Sweden, Erik Hoglund." Engraved on bottom "H1671/220." Full of his signature air bubbles in the design.Erik Höglund (1932-1998) was a Swedish glass artist, furniture designer, painter, sculptor and graphic artist from Karlskrona, Sweden.  He began his career at Boda Glassworks in 1953, as a designer at the young age of 21.  Despite his limited experience in glass design, through sheer determination and significant talent, he ultimately revolutionised the Swedish glass industry.
At Boda, Erik Höglund cultivated a unique design style characterised by robust, rustic objects in simple forms, lacking polished surfaces. He found inspiration in primitive cultures, and his creations often featured human and sculptural shapes with glass mass that included air bubbles"”an unheard-of feature in glass art of that era. He regularly paired coarse glass with entirely different materials, such as iron.
Today, some of Hoglund's most celebrated pieces include his ironwork chandeliers and candlesticks with medallion-like glass decorations, which command high prices at auction. Â He is celebrated as one of Sweden's most distinguished artists - not just in glass - but also in sculpture, lighting, mirrors and furniture.Boda Glassworks was founded in 1864 and merged Kosta Glassworks and Afors Glassworks in 1976 to form Kosta Boda AB. Â In 1990, Kosta Boda merged with Orrefors to form Orrefors Kosta Boda AB which still produces fine artistic glassware today.
