Large Chamois Trophy on Carved Plaque, Austria 1948

A antique chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) trophy mounted on a wooden carved plaque which features acorns, oak leaves and a handwritten inscription. The trophy was shot 1948 in the Austrian pre alpine foothills. Good condition.

Trophies are mementos from the hunted game, which are kept by the huntsmen as a souvenir or decorative item. For many centuries it was a tradition to collect trophies. Nowadays exactly these are becoming more and more popular as decorative highlights in hunting lodges.
