Description
This set of five vintage Fukagawa porcelain pedestal cups was made in Arita, Japan, and dates to the mid-20th century, circa 1950s–1970s. Each cup bears the characteristic underglaze blue Mt. Fuji mark associated with Fukagawa Porcelain production. These small pedestal cups are traditionally used as wine or sake cups but also function beautifully as egg cups. The petite scale and refined porcelain construction make them equally suitable for display or table use.
Each of the five cups features finely detailed transfer motifs framed within shield-shaped cartouches. The set includes three distinct designs: a classic sailing ship at sea, a figure holding a hat set against a green background, and a gentleman with a cane set against a bright blue background. The variety of imagery gives the set a charming narrative quality while remaining visually cohesive. Each cup is further distinguished by a different pedestal base color, including pale green, soft pink, turquoise blue, deep cobalt, and magenta, all accented with delicate gold banding. The crisp white porcelain, colorful bases, and detailed pictorial motifs create a refined yet playful presentation typical of Fukagawa Arita porcelain.
These are delightful small pieces that display beautifully together and add a touch of color and character to a breakfast table or porcelain collection.
