EDO ROOSTER - BENIN

Description

Cast Benin bronze rooster with finely detailed plumage and definition. Roosters were important altar objects in the Benin royal court, placed on the altar of the Queen Mother (Iyoba). Good overall condition with overall verdi gris patina. Structurally sound and sturdy. Some minor holes to the sculpture possibly due to the antiquated sand casting method. Good overall wear and patina. The bird stands approximately 9 high 7 deep 2 wide Condition: Good with nice patina, however during the casing process some of the crosshatch on the base was inconsitently formed. Remains structurally sound and stable.
